In 2017 the Ministry of External Affairs, in collaboration with the Department of Posts, launched the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) to speed up the passport applications for residents by eliminating the need to go to Regional Passport Offices. Even though this benefited citizens, it led to longer processing times compared to the regional offices.
Later to improve the passport service further, POPSK was turned into an online mode, resulting in quicker passport processing at the post office.
Currently, the Nagpur Regional Office has successfully implemented the online operations for Chandrapur, Amravati, Akola, and Wardha locations. Additionally, efforts are underway to make the centres in Buldhana, Bhandara, Gadchiroli, Katol, Hingoli, and Yavatmal operational online as soon as possible.
Apart from this routine inspections at various POPSKS under the jurisdiction of the Regional Passport Office Nagpur will also be conducted to keep a check on various shortcomings in security, washroom facilities, drinkable water, and public waiting areas.
