“The marathon will be held in four categories including 3- km fun runs, 5-km family run, 10-km and 16-km (endurance runs). Runners from all over Vidarbha will participate in the event and the hosts have received more than 500 entries. 10-km and 16-km run will be timed using RFID timing chips. All participants will get a timing chip, timing certificate, dryfit marathon T-shirt, finishers medal, post race refreshments and complete route support. Top three finishers in men and women groups will be given prizes,” informed Dr Shantanu Sengupta while addressing mediapersons on Friday.
With an aim to spread awareness about health and fitness among general public, Deep Foundation, along with Sengupta Hospital and Research Institute and Abhijit Realtors will be jointly conducting ‘Pulse Marathon’ that will be flagged-off at Bishop Cotton School ground, Civil Lines on August 20
Dr Sengupta added, “Regular exercise has proved to be ben- eficial for cardiovascular ben- efit. It is helpful in modulating the heart rate and it has been seen that keeping once heart rate between 70-80 beats per min is associated with better life expectancy. Regular exer- cise prevent weight gain, reduce blood pressure, control blood sugar and delay the onset of dementia and Alzheimer’s diseases.”
