Vidarbha Taxpayers Association (VTA) in its recently held executive body meeting chaired by its president Shrawan Kumar Malu welcomed the decision and start of demolition of Ganesh Tekdi flyover in front of Nagpur Railway Station by the authorities. VTA had highlighted its limited utility & initiated this issue in public interest in 2016.
Shrawan Kumar Malu – VTA president said this flyover had served its purpose so far and now with increased traffic the road frontage in front of the Railway Station has shrunken drastically; to increase such space, demolition of the flyover is the only available option. Furthermore, with the changing face of Nagpur into a metropolitan city, we need much more graceful approach and departure facilities. While making a demand to the Government for removal of this flyover, VTA had always requested to appropriately relocate the shop owners.
Tejinder Singh Renu – VTA secretary said, in my view this was never a flyover, it was a commercial complex with a road on the roof as this infrastructure never flew over anything. There is no railway track, river, road or likewise to fly over, except the shops. In 2003, Nikose – superintending engineer of MSRDC had rejected the proposal of this Ganesh Tekdi flyover, he was transferred & then construction went through. Furthermore, with the redevelopment work of Nagpur Railway Station by Railway Land Development Authority (RLDA) into a modern world class facility, we need an appreciable frontage. Presently there is no right turn permitted towards JaiStambh Square, this is also required under the new road design to reduce the burden on Manas Square.
It was further resolved in the meeting that VTA shall be submitting appropriate suggestions to the Authorities in regards to development of Tekdi Road once this flyover is demolished.
Present in the VTA Executive Body meeting were Vice President Hemant Trivedi, Treasurer Pawan K. Chopra, Joint Secretary Amarjeet Singh Chawla, Executive Body Members Ashwin Mehadia, Pravin Agrawal, CA Hemant Sarda, Govind Patel, Sharad Sonkule, Viru Balani, Shrikant Oke and Vicky Osan.
