AS PER its new payment policy, the power distribution company will no longer accept electricity bills exceeding Rs 5,000 in cash from the customers other than those in the LT (low tension) agriculture category.
From August 1, the consumers with billing amount of more than Rs 5,000 will have to pay it online as the Maharashtra Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has made it mandatory.
In a statement, MSEDCL said the new payment system was made compulsory as per the orders of Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC).
In the meanwhile, consumers with less than Rs 5,000 bill amount may pay it in cash. In addition to this, consumers in LT agriculture category, may also pay electricity bill worth less than Rs 10,000 in cash. MSEDCL has asked all its bill collection centres not to accept cash from such customers.
The company has also informed other bill collecting agencies to follow the new guidelines. To encourage the new payment system, the distribution company will offer a discount of 0.25 per cent (with a limit of Rs 500) to the consumers.
