Renowned Marathi writer, poet, and lyricist Namdeo Dhondo Mahanor (Na Dho Mahanor) passed away at Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune at 8.30 am on Thursday, after a brief illness. He was 81. He was on a ventilator for the last few days. He was honoured with the fourth highest civilian award Padma Shri in 1991.
Born on September 16, 1042, Mahanor wrote several poems on social issues including problems faced by farmers, villagers, and political turmoil. He was nominated to Maharashtra’s Legislative Council. Mahanor wrote songs for Marathi movies like ‘Jait Re Jait’, ‘Doghi’, and ‘Ek Hota Vidushak’.
The last rites will be performed at his native village Palaskhed in Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar) district on Friday.
