Indian shooters have won the gold in the World Archery Championship, After the stupendous success achieved by women, now Ojas Deotale of Nagpur city has also achieved gold medal. Ojas has become the first Indian male archer to win a gold medal in this event. He got the gold medal by scoring 150 points in the final.
The World Archery Championships 2023 starting in Berlin is the first Paris 2024 Olympic qualifier event for archers. Ojas Pravin Deotale, a resident of Nagpur defeated Lukasz Przybylski of Poland 150-149 in a hard-fought match and became the first Indian male archer to win a gold medal in the World Championships.
The 21-year-old Ojas had earlier beaten former world champions, Dutch archer Mike Schlosser and Przemyslaw Konecki of Poland, in the semi-finals and quarters respectively.
With this, India’s campaign at the World Archery Championships 2023 in Berlin ended with a total of four medals, three gold and one bronze on Saturday. All these medals were won by compound archers.
None of the Indian recurve archers made it to the medal round, thus failing to win any Olympic quota place for the proposed Paris 2024 Olympics in Berlin. Only recurve archery competitions are held in the Olympics.
