Former Maharashtra Minister and Nationalist Congress Party leader Nawab Malik has been granted bail for two months by the Supreme Court. The bail has been granted on health grounds.
Nawab Malik was in jail since February 2022. Malik moved the Supreme Court after the Bombay High Court rejected his bail plea. The Supreme Court heard Malik’s petition on Friday. The Enforcement Directorate did not object to the court granting him bail. A bench of Justice Aniruddha Bose and Justice Bela M Triveri granted bail to Malik.
Malik was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case. He is also facing charges related to illegal land deals and connection with the underworld. Malik’s name figured during enquiry with Iqbal Kaskar. He was arrested on February 23, 2022. ED carried out raids at many places in this connection, when Malik was in jail.
Malik was a minister in Maha-Vikas Aghadi Government in Maharashtra when arrested. MVA government did not remove him from the ministry even when he was charged with serious offences and arrest.
