Maharashtra Government will not allow any Casino to be opened. The law connected to Casinos has been scrapped by the cabinet on Friday.
The Maharashtra Casino (Control and Tax) Act 1976 was never implemented in the state. The Act provides for control and regulation of casinos and imposition of tax on betting. Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis was firm that casinos must not be permitted.
A large number of petitions seeking permission for opening casinos are pending with the court citing the Act. Fadnavis, however, stood firm against such permission. He was also against the proposals even when he was the Chief Minister in 2016.
