Sunday remained dry in the city despite a yellow alert issued by the meteorological department. Only some remote areas in Nagpur district witnessed short spells of light rain.
Yet, IMD has extended the yellow alert till Monday. The city had registered 24.4 mm rainfall till 8.30 am today. The department has extended the yellow alert for Monday in view of cyclonic circulation over south Madhya Pradesh with low pressure area.
The city recorded 30.5 degrees C day temperature while the relative humidity was 98 percent in the morning but reduced to 78 percent in the evening.
Meanwhile, Wardha district received 148.2 mm of rainfall and Gadchiroli district received 125.4 mm. today.
The city received 803 mm of rainfall from June to Au- gust 20 while it recorded 134.5 mm only in August month. There is a rainfall of 652.7 mm in Vidarbha during the current monsoon.
It is worth mentioning here that the rainfall in the city this season has been below average. Even though there is ample water in the reservoirs, administration has cautioned that below average rainfall may lead to water shortage during summer.
At the beginning of monsoon, it was being said that the city may receive excessive rainfall this year, but that certainly did not happen. The shortage of rainfall may also affect some crops, experts say.
