Pretending to be GST officials, two thugs collected fines from traders in Mandhal. When the suspicions were raised the traders realized that they had been cheated.
Between 1 pm and 4 pm on Tuesday, two thugs, claiming to be GST officials, asked several shops in Mandhal whether they had paid business and sales tax and collected fines. they also asked Rajiv Budhe, president of the trade association and owner of Budhe Krishi Kendra. As soon as Buddhe said that a person from their village is working in the main position in GST, they started to leave.
By the time the news of this incident reached the village, both of them had illegally collected thousands of rupees in the name of fines.
Moreover, essential items were also taken away from the shops for free.
When some shopkeepers asked for their identity, they told their names as Raut and Ramteke. When checked on the caller ID of the mobile, the name of an organization was appearing in it. On investigation by some conscious citizens, it was found that a person named ‘Ramteke’ was working at the Business and Sales Tax Department in Nagpur and was on sick leave for a month.
