The Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court express concern over the increasing number of accidents and deaths on the Samruddhi Highway. High Court issued a notice to the state government and the Maharashtra Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and ordered them to submit a reply within four weeks regarding the inconveniences on the ‘Samruddhi expressway.
Anil wadapalliwar has filed a public interest litigation demanding the temporary closure of the highway due to inadequate safety arrangements and inconvenience on the highway. The court expressed deep concern over the deaths of innocent people in accidents on the Highway and accidents due to lack of facilities.
Experts speculate that the lack of greenery on the side of the highway leads to accidents due to road hypnosis and non-fulfilment of other safety norms mandated by the IRC guidelines. Along with this, the drivers entering the Samruddhi Highway are not checked for alcohol consumption, vehicle inspection, quality of wheels, air and other matters. Wadapalliwar says that the number of accidents has increased due to this.
