Over 17,00 hospitals have shown interest in joining the Maharashtra Government’s ambitious Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY), immediately after the insurance amount was increased from Rs 1.50 lakh to Rs 5 lakh and its intention to increase the participation of hospitals.
The scheme is available to holders of White/ Orange and Yellow ration cards in the state. The scheme which was announced in the year 2012 is being expanded. Besides the 272 government hospitals, a large number of private hospitals have been included in the panel. Another list of 200 hospitals is being added to the existing 1,000. Since the introduction of the scheme action against 641 hospitals was taken for refusing treatment to patients covered under the scheme. The hospitals had levied additional charges to the patients. In some cases, the hospitals withdrew from the scheme.
A large number of health procedures have been incorporated under the scheme, including major operations related to cardiac diseases, organ transplants etc.
Individual applicants must have an annual income of less than Rs 1 lakh. Family members of the primary applicant can enjoy benefits under the scheme. The scheme which was being implemented in distressed districts has now been extended to the whole of Maharashtra.
