Prof Sougata Ray, Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship (Practice) at Indian Business School, and Thomas Schmidheiny, Chair and Executive Director – of TSCFE, inaugurated the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur’s second batch of PhD (Executive) during a ceremony held on the Institute’s campus on Monday.
Congratulating the new batch of research scholars, Prof. Ray said that it was incredible on the senior working business executives’ part to understand the deep desire within and make choices accordingly. It is essential to set up aspirations, develop the ability to abstract and write, and make your knowledge and experience more impactful, Prof. Ray advised the research scholars.
Prof. Ray was all praise for the 12 research scholars as they displayed determination to pursue education despite having to balance professional and family commitments. India is set to lead globally, and the new breed of research scholars has to understand their roles and make this journey impactful. “Always remember that research is not an individual activity but a collaborative effort made with faculty and other PhD students. Research is science and a craft as well. Deal with it accordingly,” Prof. Ray advised.
Terming IIM Nagpur’s campus as the most outstanding one, Prof. Ray said that a doctoral program in management for working business executives at the Institute would help reduce the huge vacuum of faculty in management academics.
In his introductory speech, Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director of IIM Nagpur, provided information about the Institute and its current journey. “This doctoral program will give you a different perspective towards management and real-life problems. This program is designed exclusively for industry-experienced executives,” he informed the new research scholars.
Dr. Metri congratulated Prof. Satish Kumar, Chairperson, Ph.D., IIM Nagpur, for bagging the first prize in the Basant Kumar Birla Distinguished Research Scholar Awards for Social Science and Management 2022 (Government Institute Category).
Prof. Satish Kumar, in his welcome speech, said they had selected 12 candidates out of the 400 received applications. Prof. Ray and Dr. Metri released the book ‘A Research Agenda for Consumer Financial Behavior’ edited by Prof. Satish Kumar and Jing Jian Xiao, Professor of Consumer Finance, Department of Human Development and Family Science, University of Rhode Island, USA.
