Mephedrone, also known as Meow Meow or White Magic, is a synthetically manufactured stimulant of the amphetamine and cathinone categories. The drugs are banned by the NDPS, but the anti-narcotics team of police in the city has nabbed 46 accused in 30 cases in the first seven months of 2023. The cops have seized around Rs.2 crore MD drugs.
The drug is directly injected by the addicts instead of swallowing. the effects can be devastating and well-documented. The increased use of MD drugs among the youth is ruining the lives of many.
The drug is not smuggled from any one place in the city. There are more than 22 hotspots in Nagpur, and some of them are the most crowded areas. The list includes places like; Ramdaspeth, Jaripatka, Wardhaman Nagar, Khamla, Sitabuldi, Wadi, Kamptee, and Kalamana.
