Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been acquitted in the case of not mentioned two crimes in the election affidavit. The two cases against Devendra Fadnavis were of a private nature. Fadnavis has been acquitted as the crimes he hid will not have any effect on the election. For this hearing, Devendra Fadnavis participated in court proceedings online.
When Devendra Fadnavis was a corporator, he had filed some complaints against a government lawyer. He issued a press release demanding that he be removed from the case. That lawyer filed a ‘criminal defamation’ case. Later the same lawyers took it back. Devendra Fadnavis did not mention this matter in his election affidavit in 2014. Objecting to this, lawyer Satish Uke filed a petition against Devendra Fadnavis. There is one more issue involved.
The second case is about the agitation for a slum dweller. as a corporator, fadnavis had given a letter to the municipal corporation that property tax should be levied on a slum located on one site. Accordingly, the municipal authorities also levied property tax on the concerned tenant. A person had made a private complaint that the land is private and belongs to him. Further this complaint was rejected by the High Court.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ affidavit for the 2014 assembly elections did not mention both these crimes. A petition has been filed against it. Devendra Fadnavis has said in his reply that these two crimes have been neglected in this court battle.
