The International-level synthetic track at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University is ready and will be dedicated to the people at 2 pm on September 17. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will be the chief guest. RTMNU VC Dr Subhash Chaudhari will preside over. Pro-VC Dr Sanjay Dudhe will be the guest of honour.
The synthetic track has received a Level-2 rank for international athletics events. A 4 X 100 relay race will be held to mark the inauguration of the synthetic track. Invited athletes will participate in the race.
The work on the synthetic track was started at the hands of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on July 25, 2021. The track was prepared under the guidance of experts Meh Hui Pu, Lo Yan Herg and Chiyang Mun Chun from Malaysia. Mumbai’s Sports Facilities started laying the track. The layers of polyurethane liquid, two layers of granular rubber and red rubber called EPDM were laid. The work was completed on April 28. Marking on the track was done under the supervision of experts from Latvia. The track was ready by May. CCTV, spectators gallery and other facilities have been installed. .
Director of the university’s Sports and Physical Education Dr Sharad Suryavanshi, Dr Dhananjay Welukar, Baktis D’Suza of Athletic Federation, Executive Editor of PWD Alpana Patne, Deputy Engineer Atul Gote, Executive Engineer Varsha Ghushe, Pravin Morey, Junior Engineer Akash Pagare, University’s Engineer Pallavi Giri, Deputy Engineer Nitin Vishvabhar, former Engineer Sheshrao Tajne worked hard for the preparation of the track.
The synthetic track is an eight-lane 400-meter track. The sports arena has facilities for conducting javelin throw, shot put, hammer throw, long jump, triple jump, and steeple chase. A proper drainage system has also been laid to avoid the accumulation of water. Fencing to the ground will prevent the entry of spectators to the sporting place. Matches in the night can also be held on the ground.
The football ground at the centre has been maintained. It has been equipped with sprinklers. The University also planted trees around the sports arena. Facilities to record photo-finish is also provided, informs the University.
