‘Nagpur @ 2025’ is an initiative for joint action by Citizens, Corporates, and NGOs led by VED Council in collaboration with the local administration of the city, viz Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Nagpur Police.
With the clarion call “Our city makes us the people we are” the aim and intent of ‘Nagpur@2025’ is to bring together all the above on one platform to enable the city’s transformation by identifying, implementing, and monitoring sustainable, focused initiatives & projects. The aim is to instill pride, positivity, and ownership amongst the citizens and to make Nagpur a fantastic city to live, work & enjoy.
We have identified Five Focus Areas to work on – Waste Management and cleanliness, Public Toilets and conveniences, Traffic management, Public Spaces, Gardens and recreational Areas, Rejuvenation of the Lake, and conservation of Heritage Sites.
Nagpur@2025 and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) jointly organized the ‘Swachh Mohalla Competition’ under the guidelines of the Swachh Bharat Mission. The competition was aimed to involve citizens acting as minicities or units. The concept was for Mohallas/RWAs to take ownership of the area and ensure local governance through various arms of NMC.
Eligibilty & Participation
- “Mohalla,” is defined as a unit comprising not less than 200 homes and not exceeding 500 homes, including self-contained gated communities.
- The competition spanned over a three-month period from January to March 31, 2023. Following the receipt of their applications, Mohallas underwent immediate evaluations to assess their current status regarding the specified parameters.
- The competition received an overwhelming response from the citizens of Nagpur as 469 Mohallas from the city’s 10 zones participated in this competition.
The All India Institute of Local Self-Government (AIILSG) played a critical role in the evaluation process, by involving Project Coordinators, Supervisors, Surveyors, and data Entry Operators. The evaluation was conducted through field observations by surveyors. The evaluation process spanned 3 phases of evaluation by the AIILSG Team and 1 phase of self-evaluation
Prizes
The prize amount will be granted in the form of a development fund and will be utilized in consultation with the winners (Mohalla/RWA).
First Prize (3 Mohallas) – Rs. 25 lakhs each
Second Prize (5 Mohallas) – Rs. 10 lakhs each
Third Prize (7 Mohallas) – Rs. 5 lakhs each
Results announcement on 17th Sep
Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari is all set to announce the much-awaited results of the first Swachh Mohalla Competition on 17th September at the event organised to celebrate Indian Swachhata League 2.0 at Chitnis Park, Mahal.
