Ambazari lake received water from MIDC and Hingna causing the overflow during the week hours of Saturday. The overflow resulted in areas near the lake like Gandhi Nagar, Daga Layout, and Corporation Colony being inundated. Water entered houses on the ground floor in these areas.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation started rescue operations in Kasturba Nagar, Daga Layout, Subhash Nagar etc. So far about 500 people have been rescued so far. Three rescue boats have been deployed from these areas.
The bus stand at Mor Bhavan, Sitabuldi was submerged. The shops in the market area also were inundated. The losses suffered by shop owners must be very heavy as per preliminary information.
Entry into the railway station also became difficult, as the premises was under three to four feet of water. Railway tracks are also underwater. The details from the Railway authorities are awaited.
Meanwhile, an alert has been sounded for people in low-lying areas. All the gates of Godewada Dam have been opened.
International flights from Nagpur Airport, scheduled early in the morning were cancelled or rescheduled
