Residents of Nagpur are still recovering from the flood and the weather department issues a new alert for the city. The Regional Meteorological Center has raised a warning that lightning could strike Nagpur. The center has cautioned that doing nothing might have dire implications.
Stay indoors for at least 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder, the warning read.
Stay at home: Don’t go out unless absolutely necessary
Avoid water: Avoid swimming or bathing at this time. Water is a good conductor of electricity and can increase the risk of electrocution
Unplug Electronics: Disconnect all electrical devices and stay away from them. Lightning can cause power surges, which can damage your equipment and create a fire hazard
Stay away from windows: Keep a safe distance from windows, glass doors and anything made of metal. Lightning can break glass and travel through metal
Do not take shelter under trees: Contrary to popular belief, trees can attract lightning strikes. Take shelter in a strong, enclosed building
Avoid using landline phones : Use mobile phones for emergency communication. Landline phones can conduct electricity
