The vehicle registration certificate (RC) and driver’s license have been updated by the transportation department with new features. Notably, these forms now contain important details including the driver’s blood type and preferences for organ donation.
A QR code has been added to the RC book and license as part of a trend toward digitalization, facilitating information access for both authorities and people. After a six-month waiting period, the revised RCS and licenses for car owners have started to arrive thanks to this recent digital printing endeavor.
The production of licences and RCs is now managed by Karnataka’s MCT Card and Technology Private Limited. A notable addition is the inclusion of a QR code on the rear of driver’s licences, marking the first time such a feature has been introduced. Previously, the blood group of the licence holder was documented, but with the new digital cards, this information is clearly visible.
In a commendable effort to support organ donation, the new licences now feature information pertaining to an individual’s willingness to donate organs. This is a significant step toward promoting organ donation, espe- cially among individuals who may, unfortunately, become brain dead due to car accidents.
