In a move aimed at curbing air pollution and noise levels associated with Diwali celebrations, the police department has restricted the use of firecrackers to just two hours. This information was revealed during the recent meeting held between Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and firecracker sellers.
Fireworks have been exempted from 8 to 10 pm, while firecracker sellers will be able to keep their shops open till 11 pm. To ensure that these rules are strictly followed, Deputy Commissioners of all zones have been instructed to form special teams. Clear instructions were given to the sellers to follow the orders given by the Supreme Court. The Police Commissioner appealed to the sellers to sell only green firecrackers.
This year, NOC has been provided to 844 firecracker sellers by the Fire Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation. The number of shops is more than 100 compared to last year. The number of shops in the year 2021 was 665 while in the year 2022 it was 756.
