Angelo Mathews, an all-rounder for Sri Lanka, was benched for a “Timed out.” The incident happened during Monday’s 2023 World Cup match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in Delhi, after the umpires ruled that the latter’s appeal was successful.
It took Mathews over two minutes to arrive at the crease, meaning he had not yet faced a delivery. This is the first case in international cricket.
