The period for bursting crackers in Diwali has now been fixed. With the objective of improving the air quality of Nagpur city by controlling air pollution, Nagpur Municipal Corporation has fixed the time from 7 pm to 10 pm for bursting firecrackers.
According to the orders of Bombay High Court and Government of Maharashtra Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari and the nodal officer of Air Quality Management Department Dr. Shweta Banerjee issued the directions. The concerned departments have also been instructed to take action at their level.
The guidelines have also been issued regarding construction sites in the city. It has been advised to install iron sheets at the construction site and to spray water continuously to prevent the dust from flying and to prevent it from mixing with the air. The guidelines have also mentioned the need for regular water spraying at all places where work is going on in the city by National Highway Development Authority, Public Works Department, Metro, Nagpur Improvement trust.
C&D waste deposited at construction sites or other places should be fully covered to prevent dust particles from mixing with the air, apart from this, the construction debris should also be fully covered while being transported from trucks to dumping yards and ready mix concrete and construction materials should also be brought and transported covered. it has also been suggested Burning of garbage is prohibited anywhere in the city. Punitive action will be taken by Municipal Corporation on those who burn garbage. The Municipal Transport Department has also been directed to check the PUC of all buses and all government vehicles of Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s ‘Apali Bus’.
