In the next few months, there is a possibility that the bus travel of the people of Nagpur will be disrupted. 235 out of 423 buses in the fleet of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, which has completed fifteen years, are going to scrap.
The Municipal Corporation had purchased these buses in 2009 under JNNURM. Bus service will be affected as half of the buses will be reduced. at present, 423 buses of the Municipal Corporation are running on the roads. It also includes some electric air-conditioned buses. 235 of these buses are completing 15 years next year. Currently 170 buses are running and 70 buses have been made on CNG. Five of these buses procured under JNNURM have already caught fire. A source in Municipal Transport Department mentioned that these buses will be scrapped during this period from January to October.
