Vidarbha Taxpayers Association (VTA) delegation led by its President Shrawan Kumar Malu met & held discussion with Chetna Tidke, IPS – DCP Traffic Nagpur over a few traffic issues of the city in public interest and also submitted a memorandum.
Shrawan Kumar Malu apprised DCP that recently Administration has closed half Kingsway Road connecting Jai Stambh T-point and Kingsway Hospital T-point for the construction of Cement Road, thereby many road users to avoid longer turn from Tekdi Road and take wrong side on Ram Jhula from the railway station loop, which may soon cause a fatal accident. Hence traffic cops are required at Jai Stambh at least during peak traffic hours and at times on the Ram Jhula to capture such traffic evaders by clicking their pictures so that fear avoids such wrong side usage.
Tejinder Singh Renu – Secretary of VTA highlighted the issue of RBI Square traffic chaos and delay, including the existing LIC Square on Kamptee Road issue; as this square is already crowded and VTA sincerely fear that once the Kamptee Road Metro flyover is ready and open for traffic, we are bound to see much traffic chaos on the LIC Square. It is highly recommended that a good traffic consultancy firm is appointed for this job and when such a planning is done, we suggest to include Traffic Police, State PWD, NMC & NHAI as Sadar Flyover landing on Kamptee Road also needs a rethink.
VTA also suggested that the traffic signal presently on Samvidhan (RBI) square works anti-clockwise; thereby after traffic from Wardha Road is turned red, traffic from Kingsway turns Green; and this position has two problems – The Green signal from Kingsway is hardly 12-15 seconds, and very heavy traffic taking right turn from Wardha Road doesn’t stop even after their signal is turn red, thereby blocking the traffic from Kingsway and thus majority of time they get 7-8 seconds to move forward. Another problem, heavy traffic leaving Wardha Roads gets choked at Sadar Flyover junction and traffic trail reaches RBI Square during peak hours thereby the traffic from Kingsway gets blocked on the square itself and blocking the next traffic coming from Civil Lines. There needs to be a traffic signal gap between traffic from Wardha Road and traffic from Kingsway; else the traffic signals made to work Clockwise will certainly have traffic issues addressed to some extent.
DCP Chetna Tidke said that she will personally visit the spots as schedule permits as busy with President’s scheduled visit and in arrangements due to festival season. She further said that traffic police also have the same fear of LIC square and will write to the administration again over the same.
Also present in the VTA delegation were Krishna Dayma – vice president, Amarjeet Singh Chawla – joint secretary, Executive Body Members – Shrikant Oke, Pratish Gujarathi and Harman Singh Baweja.
