Mayank Hedau in Open Group and Aparnita Jagatp in Girls Group Annexed the Titles of the Nagpur District Under-15 Selection Open and Girls Chess Championship organized by Chess Association Nagpur at Sports and Cultural Foundation and Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation at Vivekanand Hall, Shraddha House, Kingsway, Near Kasturchand Park, Nagpur which was organised on 19th November 2023.
Mayank Hedau, Top Seed Sharma Sai, Sahajveersing Maras, Mrudul Yadav, Swaraj Mishra and Shraddha Bajaj all scored 5 points out of 6. However, on the basis of Tie Break Score Mayank was adjudged winner and Sharma Sai, Sahajveer, Mrudul, Swaraj and Shraddha were placed from 2nd to sixth respectively in final standing. Alok Fadnavis scored 4.5 points to take away the seventh position in the merit list.
In the Girls Group, Second seed Aparnita Jagtap and Seventh seed Vidhi Mishrikotkar were way ahead of the rest of field and scored 5.5 points out of 6. Both drew among themselves and won with their other opponents to tie for the first place. In the ensuing tie breaker, Aparnita was declared winner while Vidhi got second position. Anisha Kumbhalkar scored 4.5 point to clinch third position. Lakshita Kranti Rathod with 4 points to her credit was placed fourth. Anushka Deshpande, Swanandi Sole, Anvi Hirde, Shanaya Shelkar, Swara Gandhi and Arya Bhaldhare also scored 4 points each and were placed from 5th to 10th position respectively based on their tie break score.
As the last years Maharashtra State Under-15 Open Chess Championship held at Amravati was won by Siddhant Gawai from Nagpur, the Nagpur District is entitled to field three additional players as selected players in addition to regular four selected players. Similarly, due to last years performance of Riddhi Agrawal who had finished third in Maharashtra State Under-15 Girls Championship, the Nagpur District is entitled to field one additional entry in this year Maharashtra State Under-15 Girls Chess Championship. As such, total 7 players namely Mayank, Sharma Sai, Sahajveer, Mrudul, Swaraj, Shraddha Bajaj and Alok Fadnavis were selected to represent Nagpur District in Open Under-15 Chess Championship and 5 girls namely Aparnita, Vidhi, Anisha, Lakshita and Anishka were selected to represent Nagpur District in Maharashtra Under-15 Open and Girls Chess Championship to be held at Sangli from 25th November to 27th November 2023.
Prizes were distributed at the hands of Prominent Coach of Nagpur & International Rated Chess Player Harsh Kanoje. Shri Bhushsan Shriwas, Secretary, Chess Association Nagpur and Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation, Chief Arbiter FA Shiva Iyer were present on the dias. Top Ten finshers in Open ad Girls group were awarded trophies and medals. Medals were also given to top three finishers in Under-13, 11, 9 and 7 age categories.
