At the 2023 IV Elllobregat Open on Saturday, Vaishali Rameshbabu achieved a rating of over 2500, making her the third female Grandmaster in India.
Vaishali and her younger brother, the chess prodigy Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, have achieved a remarkable feat that makes them the first-ever Grandmaster siblings in history.
Vaishali, like Praggnanandhaa, began playing chess at an early age. According to their mother Nagalaxmi, she enrolled her two kids in chess lessons because she noticed that they were spending too much time in front of the television. As they say, the rest is history.
RB Ramesh, the siblings’ coach, last month talked regarding their playing methods. “You could say that at first, their styles were comparable and then slightly diverged. They both work extremely hard. They are very devoted to chess because, like many other kids their age, they don’t have many interests outside of it,” he remarked. “They both put in a lot of daily hours practicing chess, both didn’t go to school from a young age practicing almost single-mindedly on chess.”
