In three to four months, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) intends to implement nationwide cashless medical treatment for victims of traffic accidents, a senior government official announced on Monday.
Inaugurating an event organized by the Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE), Road Transport and Highways Secretary Anurag Jain pointed out that India has the highest number of road accident deaths worldwide.
“The updated Motor Vehicle Act of 2019 (MVA2019) includes provisions for the provision of free and cashless medical treatment to accident victims. Although it has been put into practice in a few states, the Ministry of Roads, working with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, will now fully implement it nationwide, according to Jain.
He states that the plan is to grant victims of traffic accidents cashless trauma care at the closest suitable hospital nationwide, in compliance with the Supreme Court’s decision, and by utilizing the authority granted by the Motor Vehicle(Amendment) Act 2019 (MV Amendment Act).
