The Maharashtra Government has mooted an International Tiger Safari Project at Chandrapur. The plan will be drafted after consulting experts in the field. Maharashtra Minister for Forests, Environment, Fisheries and Cultural Affairs Sudhir Mungatiwar spoke about the proposal during a meeting held in Nagpur.
Mungantiwar is in Nagpur because of the winter session of the Maharashtra State Legislature beginning on December 7.
A large number of tourists visit forests in Chandrapur, which has a large number of tigers. Developing Chandrapur as an international tiger safari site, employment for local people will be generated and huge revenue can be earned, he said.
Mungantiwar said that advice from international-level experts will be sought for planning the project.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary and senior Forest Department officers. A presentation on the proposal was made by the Forest officials before Mungantiwar.
