The overflow of Ambari Lake on September 23 has caused quite a stir in the community. It ended up affecting a number of homes and businesses across one of the city’s most important areas. The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court expressed its worry about the situation while hearing a PIL filed as a result of the city’s tragic event.
The respected High Court has highlighted the state government’s and concerned departments’ failure to complete the Ambazari Lake Plan Scheme, which was launched in 2018 within the given timeline.
The NMC and its officials have been told that if the programme is not completed at its earliest, a non-bailable warrant would be issued against them. The officers are asked to appear at the next hearing and file a response by December 22nd.
In a previous hearing notice was issued against officials from several government entities who were responsible for the scheme’s failure to be completed.
The petitioners have requested 5 lakh rupees of compensation for persons who suffered loss of residence and 10 lakh rupees for shops and retailers during the flood. Adv. Tushar Mishra is the counsel for petitioner whereas Adv. S.K. Mishra, Adv. Girish Kuntle & APP Deepak Thakre will be representing the respondents.
