A 200-bed hospital for women will be started in Gadchiroli. The hospital with all facilities including the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) will be started soon. The announcement was made by the Public Health Minister Tanaji Sawant in the Legislative Assembly.
The announcement came following a discussion about maternal and infant mortality in Gadchiroli and Buldana. When Sawant said that the decision on the issues would be taken after a meeting with the district authorities concerned, the Opposition members raised slogans and then staged a walkout.
Rajendra Shjingne wanted to know the procedure adopted for the appointment of health officers.
Gadchiroli has a 100-bed women’s hospital. However, the number of beds is inadequate. Women patients are referred to private hospitals in Buldana for want of facilities.
Sawant assured to get the detailed report within 15 days.
The Opposition members blamed the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena government of neglecting the basic problems related to the health of the common people.
