The first of its kind in Maharashtra, a muliti-storey multipurpose indoor stadium will be developed at the sports arena of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, at Ravi Bhavan.
RTMNU Vice-Chancellor Dr Subhash Chaudhari reviewed the plan through a PPT presentation.
The indoor stadium is being developed to mark the centenary year of the University. The Maharashtra Government has given Rs 100 crore to the university, of which Rs 44 crore will be used for the stadium. The first installment of Rs 20 crore has been received and the construction work is expected to begin soon.
Architect Anand Sarda has been appointed the planner for the stadium. The technical committee has the University’s Director of Sports and Physical Education Dr Sharad Suryavanshi, the Chairman of the Board of Studies of Physical Education and Sports Dr Dhananjay Welukar, Arjun and Dronacharya award winner Vijay Muneshwar, Executive Engineer of PWD Varsha Ghuse, Deputy Engineer Atul Gote, Ar Sarda, University Engineer Nitin Vishwakar, Deputy Engineer Mahendra Patil.
The stadium will have facilities for ten different sports, which can be conducted during the day and evening. The stadium will also be available for practice sessions. Facilities for conducting basketball, handball, table tennis, gymnastics, kabaddi, judo, wushu, badminton, squash, and wrestling events will be available at the stadium.
The stadium will be decorated with murals of important sports persons. It will have a cafeteria, meeting hall, conference hall, administrative office and he parking place, informs a press note issued by the University.
The space behind the Subhedar Hall has been marked for construction of the stadium.
