In an attempt to reduce road accidents Maharashtra government will be taking several measures like setting up automated driving test tracks and vehicle fitness check.
Replying on question on road accidents in Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, Chief Minister, informed the members in State Assembly on Tuesday that automated driving testing tracks will be set up at 17 places. He also announced that vehicle fitness centres would be set up at 23 places.
Ashok Chavan raised this question where he had pointed out, “There is no mechanism of driving test, vehicle checking. The license issuing system has become outdated, which needs to be upgraded. Vehicles have become outdated and are still running on the road due to which accidents can take place.”
Varsha Gaikwad said, “Some proper arrange- ment should be made
as far as the system of carrying students to school is concerned.”
Dadaji Bhuse, Public Works Department (Public Undertaking) stated that blackspots are being identified for which the provision of funds of District Planning Committee (DPC) has been made. Awareness about traffic rules is being created on highways, added Bhuse.
Several steps have been taken to reduce accidents on roads, including the Mumbai- Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway. As many as 60-70 lakh vehicles have used the highway so far, Bhuse said. Government was also working on a system to issue messages to vehi- cle owners before the expiry date gets over.
