Pankaj Daharwal, a 38-year-old youth, is said to have killed himself out of desperation after receiving astronomical bills from Neuron Hospital in Dhantoli. On Wednesday night, grieving family members of the deceased held a demonstration outside the hospital and made demands for action.
Working for a private company, Pankaj struggled financially for his brother Praful, in a month-long stay at Neuron Hospital. A suicide note was found in Pankaj’s home by Wadi police.
According to the suicide note, the hospital allegedly overcharged by using fictitious prescription listings, forcing the family to sell valuables in order to cover the costs. Pankaj made accusations against Manager Pradeep Rokade and Dr. Pramod Giri. He also claimed that the two were engaging in unethical behavior in the suicide note.
The Daharwal brothers’ supporters and relatives complained to the Wadi Police Station and requested that something be done. According to Wadi Police Station Police Inspector Pradeep Rayannawar, a suicide note was found and an accidental death case was filed.He said that more action would be taken shortly.
The family claimed an initial bill of Rs 2.50 lakh escalated to Rs 8.40 lakh with the hospital pressuring for an additional Rs 3 lakh.
