Ojas Deotale, the Golden Boy archer from Nagpur, is a nominee for the esteemed Arjuna Award in recognition of his extraordinary achievements in the sport of bow and arrow.
The Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award is India’s highest sporting honor; the Arjuna award is ranked second. The winners of the Arjuna award get a certificate in addition to a Rs. 15 lakh cash award.
When the 21-year-old Nagpur compound archer became the first Indian to win the Wadd championship in Berlin, Germany, in August, he became the talk of the country.
Ojas made it a double delight for himself and the country when he assisted the Indian Compound team in winning the yellow metal in the same competition.
A few months later, Ojas, Pravin and Archana’s son, set yet another record at the Hangzhou Asian Games in China, where he took home three gold medals.
