Eighty people suffered from food poisoning at a wedding function where putrefied food was allegedly served, according to a case filed by Kalmeshwar police against the directors of Chokar Dhani, a destination wedding venue. Among the defendants are the Jaripatka- based company M/s. Parvati Lakshmi Infrastructure and its directors, Jeetu, Shyam, Mohan, Naresh, and Soni Savlani.
The well-known Swagat Lawns and Rani Kothi wedding venues are also owned by the same extended family. The name Chokar Dhani comes from the well-known “Choki Dhani” resort in Rajasthan, which is close to Jaipur. There, an entire artificial village with a market and a traditional “mela” has been built to amuse guests.
Following their consumption of food at the son of businessman Kailash Batra’s wedding at Chokar Dhani in Nagpur, over 80 people had food poisoning. December 9 and 10, Batra had arranged events at the location on Amravati Road. December 10 was the reception for the wedding. Following dinner that day, a few people’s health began to deteriorate. People who had eaten at the reception began to get sick very quickly. During the reception, the event manager that Batra had hired for the event noticed a smell of stale food and informed the manager of Chokar Dhani, but she was disregarded.
