Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath has been removed as the party’s state unit chief, following the party’s debacle during the Assembly elections. Jitu Patwari will succeed Kamal Nath.
The decision was taken by the party president Malliarjun Kharge and came in effect immediately. The party has appreciated the contribution of the outgoing president.
The Congress also appointed Umang Singhar as its leader in the MP Assembly and Hemant Katare as his deputy. The party was routed in the recently concluded Assembly elections. The Congress Party came down to 66 seats from 114 won in 2018. Bharatiya Janata Party wrested power in MP by winning 163 seats out of 230.
Kamal Nath will be succeeded by Jitendra alias Jitu Patwari, who was a minister in Kalam Nath’s government.
