A woman suffered extensive injuries across her body in an alarming incident where her boyfriend allegedly attempted to mow her down with his car near a hotel in Thane. The incident took place on December 11 and the man, Ashwajit Gaikwad is the son of Anil Gaikwad, who holds the position of Managing Director at the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation.
Narrating the incident on her Instagram profile, the woman Priya Singh disclosed that she had gone to meet Ashwajit around 4 am on December 11 for a family function after receiving his call. Upon meeting him, she observed strange behavior and requested to talk to him in private.
Priya added that he was accompanied by a friend who started insulting her. Ashwajit started hitting her after she asked him to defend her, she said.
“My boyfriend slapped me, tried to strangle my neck, I tried to push him away. He bit my hand, beat me, pulled my hair and his friend out of nowhere pushed me to the ground,” said Priya Singh on her Instagram. She added that she ran to his car to get her phone and her bag and that’s when Ashwajit asked his driver to run her over. After running over her legs, they fled away from the site, she further said.
“My right leg is broken and I had to undergo surgery, had to put a rod in my right leg. I have bruises all over my body, my arms, my back and my stomach area is deeply scrapped,” said Priya. She added that she had been dating Ashwajit for four-and-a-half years.
Following the incident, she tried to file a case at the Kasarwadavli Police Station in Thane. However, she claimed that the personnel at the police station refused to register the case, allegedly under pressure from higher authorities. Subsequently, after sharing her ordeal on social media and gaining public attention, a case was eventually filed at the same police station against Ashwajit Gaikwad and two others, including the driver, under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 279 (rash driving), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and other relevant sections under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Priya Singh is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital. She alleged that Ashwajit’s friends have been threatening her and her sister for registering the FIR. A senior police official denied the allegations leveled by the woman that the police did not register the case as per the media reports. Probe into the incident is underway and no arrest has been made so far.
