In a recent announcement in the state assembly, PWD Minister Ravindra Chavan shared plans to start a new portal to update citizens about the status of ongoing road construction work across Maharashtra on Wednesday. Responding to concerns raised by MLA Dr. Kiran Lahamate, Chavan emphasized the need for transparency in road development projects. The portal will start in the month of January.
The portal aims to provide real-time updates on construction activities undertaken by various departments, including Public Works, Rural Development, the Prime Minister’s Road Development Project, and the Chief Minister’s Rural Road Development Programme. The rules and regulations of these projects are also different. The state government has been funding these projects for the last one and a half years, and efforts are being made to complete them within time.
PWD Minister Ravindra Chavan pointed out the diversity of geographical challenges and contractor technologies across districts. Therefore, the government’s hands-on approach, not just in allocating work but also in conducting regular reviews, He further said, “If there are potholes on the road or a delay in construction of the road or a delay in maintenance work, then a meeting with the concerned contractor will be held and directions will be issued to him.”.
According to Chavan, the ongoing state projects are worth Rs. 300 crore, with 82 completed and 39 in progress. Seventy-nine projects completed the tender process. Additionally, Zilha Parishad sanctioned 147 road works, with 95 completed and 44 in progress. Under Pradhanmatri Gram Sadak Yojana, 12 projects were finished, while Mukhyamantri Gram Sadak Yojana saw a completion of 22, with 6 pending.
