The country’s metro network spans approximately 905 km, with the expansion of the Maharashtra metro railway occurring in the cities of Pune, Nagpur, and Mumbai. In this region, especially in Nagpur, a 40-kilometer metro system has been finished thus far. In the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Development Hardeep Singh Puri stated that the second phase of the Nagpur Metro, spanning 43 kilometers, is scheduled to be completed by December 2027.
This matter was brought up in the Lok Sabha by Ramtek MP Kripal Tumane with a starred question. Minister Puri responded by saying that Maharashtra has a 141 km long metro network, with 77 km located in Mumbai, 40 km in Nagpur, Hardeep Singh, and 24 km in Pune. A 23-kilometer Metro Phase-3 line connecting Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar has been approved for Pune, in addition to Puri.
It will set you back Rs. 8,313 crore. From Mihan to MIDC ESR, Automotive Chowk to Kanhan River, Lokmanya Nagar to Hingna, and Prajapati Nagar to Transport Nagar, the second phase of the Nagpur city metro will span 43.80 km. According to Union Minister Puri, funds totaling Rs 6708 crore have been allocated for this purpose.
