As the country witnessed a surge in the number of cases suffering from the new sub-strain JN.1, Tanaji Sawant, Maharashtra Health Minister on Thursday advised the people not to panic. He advised that the healthcare system of the state was fully prepared and geared to deal with any possible situation.
Tanaji confirmed that the state has detected one patient suffering from JN.1 sub strain.
Amid rising Covid cases in the state attributed to the new sub-strain JN.1, Maharashtra Health Minister, Tanaji Sawant has advised people to not panic saying that the healthcare system of the state was fully prepared and geared to deal with any possible situation.
Meanwhile, the state Health Department announced that, following the discovery of the new sub-variant in the state, routine genome sequencing was being carried out.
The JN.1 sub-strain has been linked to the recent surge; among its most typical symptoms are cough and mild fever.
Officials claim that the sub-strain is currently common in 36–40 countries and has caused 16 fatalities in the past few weeks.
Despite the fact that the majority of the dead had coexisting illnesses, the officials reported that 92% of the patients who had the new strain identified were recuperating at home.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there were 2,311 active Covid cases in the nation as of Wednesday, and 5,33,321 fatalities had been reported since the pandemic arrived in India. (ANI)
