Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, who was previously in Congress, told him that ‘ghulami’ (slavery) works in the BJP.
“A BJP MP, who was previously in Congress, met me in private and told me that ‘ghulami’ works in BJP. He told me that his heart is still with the Congress,” said Gandhi, addressing the ‘Hain Taiyaar Hum’ rally in Nagpur.
“He told me that orders that come from the top are to be followed and that nobody listens to party workers. Whether one likes it or not, there is no choice, he told me,” Gandhi said in the rally.
He further said that all institutions, including central probe agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), are under pressure from the government. Gandhi also talked about an incident where Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole said to have asked a question to PM Modi regarding the share of GST being given to the farmers. He said, “PM Modi didn’t like his question, followed which Patole was out.”
The Congress party started its campaign for next year’s Lok Sabha elections with its mega rally ‘Hain Taiyaar Hum,’ held in Maharashtra’s Nagpur city on Thursday, marking the party’s 139th foundation day. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Sonia Gandhi also addressed the rally.
