After being delayed for about eight months, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has infused a financial boost of 7.22 crore into the long-pending Wadi flyover project. These funds will be used in raising the height of high-tension electric cables over Amravati road near Hingna-Wadi T-point, elevating from 10.5 meters to 28 meters.
The execution agency for the flyover, which is the national highways division of the state Public Works Department (PWD), has received sanction from the chief managing director of MSETCL in Mumbai to increase the height of three monopoles.
As per media reports, construction on the opposite side of Amravati road is almost complete. However, progress is halted at Hingna-Wadi T-point due to pending approvals from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). Umair Inamdar, the sectional engineer with the national highways division of the state public works department, mentioned that the ministry has provided technical approval and released 7.22 crore for the project.
The construction of the flyover on the Wadi police station side is complete, with only a remaining stretch of 120 meters from Wadi T-point to the Wadi Gurudwara side. The process of relocating cables is expected to be finished by the end of January next year, followed by the completion of civil work by February. According to Inamdar, the flyover is set to open for vehicular traffic by March 2024. Once the civic work gets over, the other flyover from RTO to University Campus square will gain momentum, said Inamdar. This flyover is expected to be ready by the end of 2024.
