The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) started the cleanup effort for the Nag river on Monday as scheduled. Abhijit Chaudhary, the municipal commissioner and administrator, gave the civic officials the order to start cleaning the rivers on January 1.
Ambazari Ghat served as the campaign’s launchpad.Prior to last year, the cleaning of the river would start in April and go through late June. The municipal administration, however, is aware of the disastrous floods that occurred on September 23, 2018, and they do not want to take any chances during this monsoon.
The lengths of the Nag, Pili, and Pohra rivers are 17.75 km, 17 km, and 12 km, respectively.
Rajiv Gaikwad, chief engineer of NMC, gave the teams instructions to make sure that the silt taken out of the river during the cleaning operation is used for trees and saplings.
