A band consisting of 45 girls hailing from the North East is set to make history by participating in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Republic Day Camp 2024. This marks the first time a band of girls from the North East is participating in the camp. The girls, aged between 13 and 15, aim to spotlight the diverse and rich cultural heritage of the North East, highlighting the NCC’s reach across the country.
As per recent media reports, Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh, the Director-General of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), disclosed that the ongoing month-long Republic Day Camp boasts a record-breaking participation of 2,274 cadets. Notably, including 907 girls, with 122 hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and 177 from the North East. Furthermore, the camp extends its global reach, with cadets and officers from 25 friendly countries participating through the Youth Exchange Programme (YEP).
Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh emphasized the camp’s objective of exposing cadets to the nation’s rich traditions, fostering values, promoting national integration, and encouraging unity in diversity through cultural exchange initiatives. The camp, attended by distinguished guests such as the Vice President, Defence Minister, Minister of State, Chief of Defence Staff, and the three Service Chiefs, will play host to various activities. Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh also highlighted the NCC’s major endeavors in 2023, encompassing the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat camps, Megacyclothon, Nari Vandhan Run, commendable sporting achievements, mountaineering expeditions, and participation in G20 events. Emphasising the refined training philosophy, he stated, “The focus is on personality development, inculcating leadership traits, and improving the soft skills of cadets to equip them for their future requirements. The idea is to transform them into better citizens and inculcate the spirit of the nation first.”
