In a setback to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) concretization project, the road stretch connecting CK Nayudu Square to Maharajbagh Chowk in Civil Lines remains incomplete, missing the December 31, 2023, deadline. However, there’s a twist in the tale as the contractor, Abhi Engineering, has been granted a three-month extension, until March 31, 2024, to finalize the 1.6 km cement concrete road. Notably, no fines have been imposed on the contractor for the delay.
As per the media report, an official from NMC’s Dharampeth zone confirmed that Municipal Commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari approved the extension for Abhi Engineering to complete the pending task. The Phase III cement road project, with three road stretches at a cost of Rs 27 crore, including Vidhan Bhavan Square to CK Nayudu Square and Nelson Square to Police Line Lake T-point, faced delays. While two stretches are completed, one side of Rabindranath Tagore Marg is finished. Despite the holdups in the Civil Lines project, NMC refrains from imposing penalties. Setbacks were attributed to monsoons and Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar’s decision to pause road work during the state legislature’s winter session.
