Rashmi Shukla, who was under controversy over the phone tapping of some senior political leaders, has been made Director General of Police. With her appointment, Maharashtra has got the first woman police officer to rise to this position.
An IPS of the 1988 batch, she was selected by the UPSC for the position from among three candidates. UPSC had submitted names of three candidates, from which the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister were to select one. As expected, Shukla was selected for the coveted post. Orders of her appointment were issued immediately.
