The airline IndiGo has raised the charges for front-row seats, which offer additional legroom, passengers will now need to pay Rs. 2,000 for these seats.
The steep revision in the seat-selection charge has been sharply increased following the airlines’ decision to withdrawl the fuel surcharge, effective from January 04, 2024.
Choosing a window or aisle seat in the front row of an A321 aircraft, which has a total of 222 seats, will now come with an additional charge of Rs 2,000. Opting for an aisle seat in the same front row will cost Rs 1,500. However, for the second and third rows, the charges for all seat types are set at a flat rate of Rs 400.
“If you choose not to purchase a preferred seat, you can always pick any available free seat, or you will be assigned a seat at no cost during the airport check-in,” as stated on IndiGo’s website.
As per the airline’s website, the charges remain consistent for both the A321 plane, which has 232 seats, and the A320 aircraft with 180 seats.
IndiGo, the largest airline in India, holds a market share slightly above 60 percent.
