Youths who were waiting to be hired for forest guard positions breathed a sigh of relief on Saturday when Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar issued an order to begin hiring 1,256 forest guards and to finish the process as soon as possible. The procedure is set to begin on January 19.
All recruitment procedures, however, were interfered with when the Supreme Court heard a challenge to the Scheduled Sector (PESA Act) hiring procedure.
In order to avoid any delays in hiring, the government chose to proceed with the remaining 1,256 posts while excluding posts covered by the Scheduled Section (PESA Act). An estimated 4 lakh young aspirants have found relief from this decision.
In August, more than 3 lakh young people took part in the online exam for the Forest Guard recruitment. Among them, more than two lakh test takers received more than 45 percent of the possible points, making them eligible for a subsequent hiring process.
