Around 111 young members of the Shiv Garjana Dhol Tasha Pathak, a traditional drummers group from Nagpur, have been invited to perform in Ayodhya on January 25 by a special invitation from the temple trust. Initially, the temple trust preferred the performance on January 22, but it’s not feasible due to the congestion. However, the group will now showcase their traditional percussion style on January 25.
“Last year, on November 20, our team visited Ayodhya and delivered performances at five locations in the town. Both the locals and members of the trust showered us with praise for our performance. This recognition is truly an esteemed honor for our team.” shared Pratik Tete, Group leader.
“Our presentation will showcase Maharashtra’s traditional percussion style, which is considered as a celebration of the victory of good over evil,” he expressed.
According to the letter sent by the temple trust, the group has to reach Ayodhya at their expense. The trust will cover accommodations and food for the group. However, Tete said this is enough. “The plan is to depart on January 23, arrive in Ayodhya on January 24, perform on January 25, and leave later that night after seeking blessings and darshan at the new temple,” he added.
The trust will decide on performance venues, but ‘Shiv Garjana’ members hope to perform in front of the new temple. After Makar Sankranti, the group will start their fresh rehearsals. The group plans surprises, including conch (Shankha), bells, and a separate team of young performers with saffron flags. A senior member anticipates an electrifying experience for visitors. Feeling blessed by the invite, they see themselves as cultural ambassadors representing Maharashtra and Marathi art. Founded in 2004, the Shiv Garjana Dhol Tasha Pathak by a group of friends wanted to keep the tradition of dhol tasha alive. The group, spanning all ages, has showcased their art at prestigious events, including in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dhol tasha, a Marathi folk tradition, involves drums and cymbals, symbolizing victory and unity.
